    About

    Your Local Landscapers in Liverpool

As your local landscapers in Liverpool, we service the area, including the inner suburbs of the Liverpool City Council. With an office based at Hinchinbrook, just under 10 minutes from the Liverpool CBD. As such, Liverpool has a diverse range of houses. Older homes date back to the 1950’s-1970’s, along with post-war homes made of weatherboard or brick veneer, townhouses and duplexes, as well as pockets of new development.

This diversity in housing types means our services to homeowners in Liverpool vary greatly from designing and building a full backyard renovation to small jobs such as planting a single tree or installing pavers around a pool. Most of our clients in Liverpool are dealing with relatively small, old blocks and therefore require landscaping designs that maximise the use of their space.

We do everything ourselves, from design through to construction, so when it comes to utilising a small block in Liverpool with difficult site access and minimal room to move, we can coordinate all aspects of the job without needing to call in other contractors. We are licensed (468421C) and fully insured for every job we undertake.

    Local Conditions

Landscaping in Liverpool — Planning Considerations

Landscaping in Liverpool will typically involve understanding the unique conditions associated with this suburb. Postcode 2170, Liverpool, is the central business district of Liverpool City Council and one of the earliest residential areas in South West Sydney. Many of the pocket areas were developed between the 1950s and 1980s. The size of the blocks in these areas can vary significantly: heritage and post-war homes may sit on 500 – 650 square metre blocks while many newer townhouse and duplex developments now have blocks sized at 200 – 350 square metres. Additionally, there are streets that have rear laneway access, which can provide additional options for landscaping the back yard and side returns.

Generally, the soil composition across Liverpool is older alluvial clay, especially near the Georges River. In general, the soils tend to drain better naturally than the new fill used in estates located further to the west. However, the major differences between landscaping in the growth corridors and those found in Liverpool relate primarily to accessing sites due to the proximity of neighboring properties, establishing and maintaining adequate boundaries with neighbors who already exist, preserving mature street trees with restricted root zones that are protected by councils and possible council heritage overlays within certain pockets limiting what can be removed or built.

It is essential to obtain permission from councils prior to undertaking any significant structural works, as tree preservation laws and regulations must be followed. Commonly, we receive jobs in Liverpool related to landscaping courtyards/townhouse type properties, installing privacy screens to separate adjacent residential properties situated very close together, replacing aging gardens originally installed during the 1960’s/1970’s, creating paved entertainment spaces within smaller lot sizes, providing residents a sense of having more space than exists.

    Older Alluvial Clay

Established soils with better natural drainage than newer estate construction fill further west.

    Tight Site Access

Narrow side returns and rear-lane access mean restricted entry for materials and machinery.

    Heritage Considerations

Some Liverpool pockets have council overlays affecting tree removal and structural changes.

    Mixed Block Sizes

Heritage lots, post-war blocks and townhouse footprints all need different design approaches.

Robert came out to our place when the backyard was nothing but a dirt patch during our initial consultation. I knew I wanted artificial grass, but I wasn’t sure how it would work up against the fence line.

He had some fantastic suggestions, including adding a small garden bed with white pebbles, which really helped tie the whole backyard together and create a great flow.

I highly recommend Robert, not only for the quality of his work, but also for his excellent after-service. His communication was exceptional throughout the entire process, and he always kept me updated as the job progressed.

Landscaping in Liverpool — Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does Courtyard Landscaping Cost For A Townhouse In Liverpool?
Courtyard landscaping costs for compact townhouses in Liverpool will vary, but usually fall into two categories. If you’re looking at plants and small pavers, then prices will start around $5,000-$8,000. If you want a full build with planters, vertical gardens, and a large paved area, prices will go up to $15,000-$20,000. If your townhouse has a larger heritage-style or post-war backyard, which needs a total rebuild, prices will likely land in the $25,000-$50,000 price bracket. If access is very limited and requires all materials to be carried by hand, then there may be an additional charge.
Can You Work On Small Blocks With Limited Access in Liverpool?
Yes. Many of our jobs in Liverpool involve working on very small inner suburb blocks with limited side-return areas or rear lane-only access. When necessary, we use smaller machines and carry heavy loads manually. We have worked extensively in these types of environments, and therefore, they don’t tend to increase the quote or time frame compared to larger sites.
Do I Need To Get Approval From The Council To Landscape My Property in Liverpool?
Typically, standard landscaping in Liverpool – including building garden beds, installing new plants and paving, or constructing low timber structures – does not require council approval. However, there are several exceptions. These include retaining walls greater than 600 mm high, raised decks (or any deck attached to the home), removing trees located on private property in Liverpool and heritage overlay properties in certain pockets of the city.
Are There Any Heritage Restrictions That I Should Be Aware Of in Older Parts of Liverpool?
There are certainly some parts of older Liverpool that have been designated as having a Conservation Area Listing or Council Heritage Overlay that restricts what you can build, remove or alter – including some street trees and front yard structures. During the initial consultative process, we review the relevant zoning for each individual job and identify if there are any heritage listings that impact the potential designs prior to providing a quote.
How Do You Handle Privacy Screening Between Houses in Liverpool, Which Are Very Close Together?
Privacy is probably one of the biggest concerns for residents living in closer proximity to their neighbors in Liverpool. As a result, we use a variety of methods to create screens, including vertical timber or composite screening, densely planted hedges (such as lilly pilly, viburnum, or magnolia ‘Little Gem’), and well-designed pergolas with feature climbers. Ultimately, the best solution for creating effective screening will depend on the type of fencing separating the houses, the views into neighboring windows, and the amount of sunlight the screen will receive.
What's The Time Frame for Completing a Small Job Such as Landscaping a Court Yard Or Front Yard in Liverpool?
Small jobs involving landscaping a courtyard or front yard in Liverpool are generally finished in 7-14 days on site. We allow about another 7-14 days prior to commencing work for design and quote preparation. Full-scale renovations on heritage or post-war homes in Liverpool will generally take 21-42 days to complete, depending upon the extent of demolition required and any limitations imposed by access constraints.
