    About

Your Local Landscapers in Middleton Grange

Living Green Outdoors is based on the north side of town at Hinchinbrook, and we cover all of the suburbs to Middleton Grange. Middleton Grange was developed in different stages during the last fifteen years, so as a result, there is a clear distinction in the type of home development within the suburb. The new sections being handed over in the current year will be brand new homes with unlandscaped yards, while many of the homes built between 2009-2011 are at the stage where their original landscapers installed turf, etc. and need either replacement or upgrade. We can complete full backyard packages, including installation of turf, pavers and an alfresco area for these new developments. For those homes that were built five to ten years ago, we offer services for early-life backyard updates.

A large number of our clients in Middleton Grange are families with children attending local schools. These families purchased into Middleton Grange because of the size of the homes and the amount of outdoor living areas. Many of them want their backyards to function as they do with their outdoor spaces. Most often this takes the form of a full backyard package with turf, pavers and an alfresco area, although some of our clients also require upgrades to their front yards to go beyond the standard builders’ finishes. We provide all aspects of service for each project we undertake. We design your backyard, source all of the required materials for you, install your backyard, and then clean up after ourselves. This keeps your project timeline to a minimum and ensures that every aspect of your finished backyard matches.

    Local Conditions

Landscaping in Middleton Grange — Local Conditions to Plan For

Middleton Grange (postcode 2171) sits within the Liverpool City Council and has been developed in stages from around 2010 through to recent releases. Block sizes typically run 350–550sqm with longer rear yards and narrower frontages, and the terrain across the suburb has more gentle variation than the dead-flat estates further west. Some streets sit on slight slopes, which affects drainage planning and occasionally calls for retaining wall work in the rear yard.

Soil across Middleton Grange is heavy clay with construction fill on the newer release blocks, settling into more stable ground in the older stages. The biggest planning consideration here is which stage of the suburb a property sits in: brand-new builds need the full blank-slate treatment with proper drainage prep, while the earlier 2010–2014 builds have 10–15-year-old original landscaping that’s tired but doesn’t always need full demolition often, a targeted refresh works better and stretches the budget further.

The most common Middleton Grange jobs we take on are full new-build landscape packages, early-life turf replacements for original lawns that have thinned out, side-return solutions for the narrower block widths, and backyard upgrades adding paving, alfresco zones and proper garden bed structures to what came with the original build.

    Mixed Suburb Stages

Newer releases need blank-slate work while older stages are due for early refreshes.

    Heavy Clay with Fill

Newer-stage blocks have construction fill needing drainage prep before turf or planting.

    Gentle Slope Variation

Some streets sit on slight slopes affecting drainage and rear-yard retaining work.

    Family-Sized Backyards

Larger family homes mean backyard demands skew towards entertaining and play zones.

Robert came out to our place when the backyard was nothing but a dirt patch during our initial consultation. I knew I wanted artificial grass, but I wasn’t sure how it would work up against the fence line.

He had some fantastic suggestions, including adding a small garden bed with white pebbles, which really helped tie the whole backyard together and create a great flow.

I highly recommend Robert, not only for the quality of his work, but also for his excellent after-service. His communication was exceptional throughout the entire process, and he always kept me updated as the job progressed.

Landscaping in Middleton Grange — Frequently Asked Questions

What will it cost to get my house landscaped in Middleton Grange?
On average, the cost of an entire new build Middleton Grange landscape package, including the front yard, backyard, turf, paving, garden beds, and alfresco area, costs around $22,000–$55,000 for a standard estate block. For early life refreshes (replacing the original builder turf, creating new garden beds, and upgrading part of the paving), prices can range from $8,000–$20,000. Large family backyards with many areas for entertaining and large hardscaping features can cost $50,000–$80,000+.
Since my Middleton Grange house was built in 2012, should I just redo all of it as opposed to doing a refresh?
In general, a targeted refresh is better than a complete demolition when dealing with homes built by the original builders in 2010–14. The original builder’s turf may be thinning and require replacement; however, most other parts, such as the garden beds, basic paving, and fences, are likely to be still functional. When we go over the assessment with you during our consultation, we determine what parts of your existing layout you would like to keep, hence why budget ranges for a targeted refresh typically run 40–60% of a full demolition rebuild.
How long will it take to landscape my Middleton Grange property?
Generally speaking, it will take anywhere from three to six weeks for us to complete a standard new build Middleton Grange landscape package. Two to four weeks prior to construction will be spent designing and quoting. If your property is one of the earlier stages of development (i.e. 10 years old), then it is likely that we will be able to complete your landscaping project in two to four weeks. However, if you have a larger family backyard with lots of different entertainment zones and/or large amounts of hardscaping, then it will likely take us six to eight weeks to complete.
Will you be able to manage the narrow side returns found in so many Middleton Grange properties?
Yes. Side returns in modern estate blocks throughout Middleton Grange are typically very narrow (one to two meters). They present some challenges in terms of surface water drainage, access for bins and gates, and how surfaces are treated without competing against the limited amount of space. Therefore, compact pavers, decomposed granite or a planted strip with mulch is often going to be easier than trying to grow grass in these zones.
Is there a requirement for council approval to undertake landscaping on Middleton Grange?
Generally no. Standard landscaping projects undertaken in Middleton Grange, including installing turf, planting garden beds, laying down paving, and planting trees/shrubs, etc., do not require approval from Liverpool Council. Walls that are below 600 mm high generally do not require approval as per NSW regulations, whereas walls greater than this height almost always require permission. Additionally, some Middleton Grange release stages contain specific design guidelines applicable to the estate. We will identify any potential requirements during our consultation process.
Which type(s) of turf is suitable for the mix of clay soils found in Middleton Grange?
Sir Walter Buffalo is currently considered the most effective natural lawn option for Middleton Grange. This product will handle clay soils well, is capable of being grown in full sun and will endure moderate levels of pedestrian activity provided adequate drainage has been resolved. Clients who desire a premium fine leaf turf option for their backyard will find Sir Grange is the better alternative. Artificial turf is increasingly becoming a popular option for low-maintenance front yards and side returns due to the shading of these areas, therefore providing a more efficient solution for homeowners with limited space.
